KAVIYOOR CAVE

There is an ancient rock cut temple in the Kaviyoor village of the Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. Well known as the Kaviyoor rock cut temple, it has historical importance and is preserved as a monument by the Archaeological Department of Kerala.

The temple, carved out of one huge rock is, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The inner sanctum of the temple has a 3 ft. high Sivalinga and on the walls there are sculptures of Chathurbhuja Ganapathi (Lord Ganapathi with four hands) and a Bhikshu. The rooms and sculptures here are all well preserved.

Located at a short distance from the cave temple is the temple of Lord Hanuman. It stands on a small hillock and is well known for its architecture. It is also a famous pilgrim center.
